Buy a business or sell a business

Best buy and sell business brokerage? There are several places where you can sell your business or buy a an established business. Businesses are bought and sold every day, maybe you want to enter a new market or you want to exit a market. Maybe you think your business will expand to a new level with another owner and you reached the ceiling of how high you can expand it. Let’s see some successful business deals and discuss a little about places where you can buy or sell a business.

Any business can be sold! Even websites, that are not really businesses, can be sold for a lot of money. GardenRant was formed in 1996 by gardening enthusiast Susan Harris, mainly as a way to share her thoughts, tips and advice as well as sharing event details and special promotions. Though you may think that there wouldn’t be much value in a gardening blog it actually did amazingly well and was eventually bought out by the company GardenWeb for a rough figure of around $1.3 Million, not bad for a blog talked mostly about flowers. Never underestimate the power of any niche community, big or small! Politicshome was founded just two years ago in 2008 by Stephan Shakespeare, who is also the founder and CEO of YouGov, which is basically an Internet-based market research company. After just one year of the blog being online, Stephan managed to sell the business in a very successful deal with Conservative politician Michael Ashcroft. The deal was worth an approximate $1.3 million.

Advices for selling a business: Finding the right broker and/or consultant to help you sell your business is crucial to your success. Often business owners go with the first person they meet just to list their business and get the process going. This can cost you time and money in the long run. Within a few months, you may see no results and have to go on the search all over again. Taking time to interview many brokers and looking at a realistic outcome of what is expected will get you going in the right direction. In my case, I signed up with the first broker I spoke with. He seemed like the perfect person to sell my business. After all, he had a background in retail (and that was my industry), he was friendly and best of all he came up with a BIG price tag. Unfortunately, it was too good to be true because he was asking too much. By raising the price he got me to sign the contract but never made the sale. After six wasted months without even a lead, I finally decided to move on. Learning from my mistake, I interviewed 12 more brokers before signing another contract. Specializing in assisting with the sale of large tech companies, they know their stuff when it comes to maximizing the value of a business and getting the best possible price for it. They work to find the best buyers for sellers and they do so by working with a curated selection of buyers in their network who are ready and willing to invest. Digital Exits helps sellers through the process of putting their online business on the market by putting a marketing plan into place, preparing an executive summary, managing deal-flow and getting multiple buyers interested in the business that’s for sale. Businesses for sale – Is not a website marketplace by definition, and certainly, the name is descriptive, but there are websites for sale as well. The thing that caught my attention were overpriced starter sites like these. If you take that same budget and go to Exchange, you are going to get a far better deal. I feel sorry for the baby boomers which this seller (Pure Ecommerce) is clearly targeting on their website. That’s the problem with marketplaces, you get one bad seller, and you lose faith in the entire marketplace. Now I will be extra careful when sourcing deals from Bussinesses For Sale, as I comb through descriptions such as: “Start a fully automated Amazon affiliate website, 100% Passive Income from affiliate links. Potential to make a profit of $150-$200 per week within 6 months, and $500 per week within year 1.”

Zazzle’s been called the “anti-Amazon by some,” but we don’t really see it that way. Zazzle is comparable to Cafe Press in that it’s a marketplace devoted primarily to writers, graphic artists, and really anyone in the business of image or logo creation. This marketplace offers over 350 products to sell online; ecommerce merchants would not be able to list their individual products here–just as Café Press merchants have the ability to create 100% completely customizable online shops with an unlimited amount of products to sell. Zazzle allows merchants to set their own royalty rates from between 10% to 99% and adjusts the final price to include this percentage. The marketplace also offers free promotional tips and strategies. Zazzle’s Affiliate/Associate program pays at least 15% for all referred sales, and will even pay a referral fee for customers you refer to your own site. This marketplace indicates it pays out to merchants by check but that there is an option to have this done via PayPal.
